i won't i say i prefer the old version, but i feel like this is too much... plastic? it has lost a bit of dynamism, or at least that's just my opinion :)

I kind of see what you mean. I think there's always a bit of energy lost to a piece when you go from the early rough lay-in phases to being more defined and rendered. There's a kind of chaos to the brush strokes that is very appealing. I'm still experimenting with trying to keep a balance between the two. Anyways, thank you for your opinion. :)

No problem! i think it's all about trying to care less about proportions and smudging and more about the "naturalness" of the pose.. as i am not a pro ( yet ;D) i still find it very hard to make a painting look "true", especially in digital. If you don't mind i'd suggest you to look to this guy : chase-sc2= [link] because he is a master in making even an imaginary scene look natural, in my opinion.
I'm sorry if you didn't want all of these infos you maybe don't even care of.. i just think you could become even more amazing! :D

He definitely has a very strong grasp of lighting and rendering and all his works are technically impressive to me but I feel as though there's a lack of character or soulfulness I want to instill in my own work. I like a fusion of both naturalistic lighting and semi-realism as well as the expression and liveliness of more stylized painting. Take a look at this painting by ilikeyoursensitivity. [link]
It is still loose and yet very expressive. The colors and hues are very realistic and yet the shapes of the characters are strong and you can definitely get an idea of a rich story just from the composition.

I also really enjoy TomScholes paintings.

He uses abstract shapes yet he gives such a strong sense of place and magic to his environments. His colors are gorgeous as well.

As I want to be a comic artist, my first objective with my art is to be able to tell a story, and so I focus more on whether I'm depicting my characters the way I see them acting in my head. Certainly I can improve on many aspects of my art, but I neither intend to be a fine artist or great illustrator. Not at this point anyways. There's such a variety of ways you can take individual style it'd be a shame to just stick to one school of execution.

Sorry for the huge reply. I thank you again for sharing your thoughts. :)
